The uncertainty, effort, and interruptions that make a reasonable next step feel harder than it should.
Conversion friction is anything that makes the next action feel uncertain, demanding, or unsafe.
It may be a long form, but it can also appear much earlier: an unclear offer, missing proof, inconsistent pricing language, an unexpected requirement, or a call to action that asks for too much commitment.
Observe The Path
Follow the journey from the customer's point of view. Note where people pause, return to an earlier page, abandon a task, or ask for clarification.
Analytics can show where behaviour changes. Interviews, support questions, and sales conversations help explain why.
Remove Uncertainty
For example, someone may hesitate at an enquiry form because they do not know whether submitting it commits them to a purchase. Explaining what happens after they send it may help more than changing the button colour.
Choose a change that addresses the hesitation you observed, then check whether it helps people continue.
The goal is not to pressure more people through the path. It is to help the right people continue with greater confidence.
